Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a therapy session?
At Khora Nexus, you can expect a welcoming and judgment-free environment. Clients are supported in sharing their thoughts and experiences with a trained professional who provides guidance in developing healthy coping strategies and building confidence in navigating challenging emotional experiences.
How can I get the most out of therapy?
By attending sessions consistently, you are prioritizing your mental health and personal growth. Active participation and openness to the therapeutic process help create a strong foundation for meaningful progress over time. Through this work, individuals may gain new perspectives, increased self-awareness, and greater confidence in navigating life’s challenges.
How is talking to you different from talking to my close friends or family?
At Khora Nexus, we provide a safe, confidential, and supportive environment guided by experienced and objective mental health professionals. We are committed to meeting individuals where they are, gaining a clear understanding of their goals, and offering thoughtful support to help guide progress in a respectful and collaborative manner.
How many sessions of therapy should I attend? How long does this process take?
Therapy is a personalized process that supports mental health and personal growth and varies based on each individual’s experiences, goals, and needs. There is no predetermined number of sessions or fixed timeline; progress is shaped collaboratively and evolves over time in a way that is unique to each person.
Why shouldn't I just take medication?
Medication can be an important component of treatment for managing certain symptoms; however, it may not address the underlying emotional, cognitive, or behavioral factors contributing to distress. Therapy focuses on understanding these factors and supporting individuals in developing skills to adapt thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in ways that promote lasting change and personal growth.

When appropriate, therapy may be used in conjunction with medication management. Research indicates that for many individuals, a combined approach can enhance treatment effectiveness compared to medication alone, depending on the nature of symptoms and individual needs.
What is confidentiality?
Confidentiality is a core component of mental health care and is designed to protect your privacy while fostering a safe and open therapeutic environment. Information shared with your mental health professional is kept confidential and is not disclosed without your consent, except as permitted or required by law.

Limited exceptions to confidentiality may apply, including situations involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect as required by mandatory reporting laws, court orders or subpoenas, and disclosures necessary for treatment coordination, payment, or healthcare operations. These disclosures are governed by federal and state laws and ethical standards and are handled with care and discretion.

Additional rights and protections may apply depending on the state in which services are provided. For complete details regarding confidentiality and the use or disclosure of protected health information, please refer to our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Why do I need a Pre-bariatric surgery assessment?
A pre-bariatric psychological assessment is required as part of the bariatric surgery process and follows ASMBs (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) guidelines. The purpose of the assessment is to better understand emotional, behavioral, and psychological factors that may influence readiness for surgery and adjustment to the changes that follow.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Cancellations and rescheduling are permitted with at least 24 hours’ notice prior to the scheduled appointment time. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be billed at the full session fee.
Does Khora Nexus provide therapy during immigration processes?
Khora Nexus does not provide or facilitate therapy services as part of any immigration evaluation process.

In mental health practice, a dual relationship occurs when a clinician assumes multiple roles with the same individual, such as serving as both evaluator and therapist. The Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) requires that social workers engaged in evaluation or research remain vigilant in avoiding conflicts of interest and dual relationships that could compromise objectivity and professional integrity.

To uphold ethical and professional standards, Khora Nexus does not offer therapeutic services to individuals for whom an immigration evaluation has been conducted. If treatment is desired or recommended, a referral list of independent mental health professionals will be provided for your consideration.
